MORETON and Stow’s representative on Gloucestershire County Council has been re-elected leader of the local authority.
Coun Barry Dare’s re-election came as the council appointed a new cabinet to lead it through the next four years.
The cabinet now comprises 10 senior councillors, including Coun Dare, from the controlling Conservative group which holds 41 of the council’s 63 seats.
Coun Gordon Shurmer replaced Lady Mavis Dunrossil as chair of the council, while Coun Jackie Hall was appointed deputy leader and cabinet member for schools.
Coun Paul McLain is lead cabinet member for children’s services and Coun Steve McMillan cabinet member for youth services.
Coun Dare said: “The county council has a responsibility to provide top-class, frontline services to the county’s residents, ensuring value for money while also being a community leader.
“I believe the new cabinet members have the skills and attributes to make sure that these responsibilities are met.”
