CHIPPING Campden motorsport enthusiast Mike Jones has formed AIP Motorsport, a new team formed to facilitate competing in the FIA Baja Championship in the T1 class.

AIP is a name well known to the British specialist marque car manufacturers, such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Lotus and Westfield.

For some 10 years now the Redditch-based firm has been quietly establishing itself as a significant first tier supplier of windscreen wash and wipe systems for cars, vans and off-road vehicles.

Jones, managing director of AIP, and his team completed the recent Spanish Baja - the Baja Espana Aragon - with a respectable 54th place out of 104 competititors from all over Europe in their first international competition in a brand new vehicle.

He said "This is a very exciting time for AIP and for the new team AIP Motorsport.

"My co-driver Chris Ratter and I have both competed in all sorts of motorsport events in the past in a variety of vehicles, but this was the first International Baja for us.

"We're all very pleased with our team's performance and, despite a few hiccups, usually as a result of being a little too keen to get past the other competitors, we have learnt a lot from the experience.

"We are now looking forward to fine tuning our performance in the Desert Warrior at the Bajas in Hungary, GB and Portugal over the next few months."

Jones is clear that to tackle such a high level in this type of motorsport event, a capable, enthusiastic and experienced team is essential.

He added: "AIP Motorsport provides an opportunity to showcase the skills of our motorsport team, but also by using the additional expertise of staff from within the main company AIP.

"I am very confident that we are able to develop solutions to the many and varied challenges that participation in this branch of motorsport brings."
