FLOODS recovery minister John Healey used a visit to Tewkesbury yesterday to announce nearly £31 million of additional funding for 62 authorities, including £4.1 million which will go to authorities in Gloucestershire.
The county will also benefit from £6.5 million of new government cash to repair roads and bridges damaged by last year's floods after transport minister Rosie Winterton announced an extra £17 million for affected communities.
After talking to residents of Rosefield Crescent he visited Crumpets tea shop where a line on the wall shows the level the flood waters reached at their height.
He told the people of Tewkesbury: "One year on from last summer's flood I have been impressed by people's resilience and how communities have pulled together to get back on their feet.
"The floods hit large parts of the country causing desvastation and misery for thousands of people.
"Over the year my priority has been to ensure these areas got co-ordinated and continuing support from government. So far we've made available more than £100 million to assist the affected regions recover and help those in greatest need."
