New vehicles for Cotswold police

THE police have been given three new high-tech cars to use in their drive to create safer communities in the North Cotswolds.

Mitsubishi car company's head office, in Cirencester, gave Gloucestershire Constabulary the vehicles for free.

The Mitsubishi Colt superminis have been specially designed and equipped for the Constabulary's Safer Community Teams (SCTs) who will use them to improve neighbourhood patrols, especially in rural areas.

They will be used in the North Cotswolds, Tewkesbury and Forest North before being moved to other divisions after about six months.

The cars are among the greenest in Mitsubishi's fleet, with low carbon emissions and fuel consumption.

Inspector Paul Morrissey, head of Gloucestershire's neighbourhood policing, said: "We have been working in partnership with Mitsubishi for some time and are incredibly grateful to them for giving us these cars and modifying them to our specific needs.

"It is essential to have the ability to reach every part of our communities and engage with the public we serve and this will only go further in allowing us to do that."

Andy Wertheim, Mitsubishi's press and public affairs general manager, said: "We are truly proud to be able to support our local constabulary in this very practical way.

"We have a long association with the force, with our own managing director's father being a police officer himself for many years."
