LAST Wednesday night at the bequest of Gloucester and Wasps Guinness Premiership clubs, a memorial evening was arranged at Stow Rugby Club.
The event was staged in memory of father and son, Bram and Chris Lane, who tragically died while they attempted to pump water from the Tewkesbury RUFC clubhouse during last summer's floods.
Tewkesbury brought a strong side to the Wold and deserved to defeat both the hosts and Shipston with the latter only able to offer defensive resistance on a very wet night.
Andy Powell, Will Dyche and Charlie Cox worked very hard all evening to stem the flow of attacks but the Rams were unable to muster much of an attacking threat.
Action on the field was almost secondary to the main purpose of the evening which was to help raise money for the families.
Gloucester and Wasps' signed shirts were auctioned, a raffle was held, a refereeing question and answer talk was conducted in the clubhouse and a substantial amount of burgers and hot dogs were consumed, washed down with copious amounts of amber liquid!
Shipston would like to wish the Tewkesbury club all the best for their vets tour to Belgium and for next season.
Results: Stow 0, Shipston 0; Shipston 0,Tewkesbury 17.
