100 Years Ago December 14, 1907 THE Moreton-in-Marsh Christmas Stock Show and Sale was held on Tuesday in very uncomfortable weather. The show itself, both numerically and as to the quality of the exhibits, was far in advance of previous years. The schedule was much as last year and consisted of thirteen classes, six for cattle, four for sheep and three for pigs. The open steer class was won by Mr E Sheldon with the champion steer at last week's show at Shipston. This is a really beautiful bullock and handles very firm and was best in show. The sheep were, as usual, a great feature of the show, and a wonderful good lot of tegs were penned.

75 years Ago December 10, 1932 ON Thursday last week the new motor fire engine was christened at Chipping Norton in the presence of a large crowd at the town hall. The deputy mayor and chairman of the appeals committee (Councillor G H Annis) said it was a great pleasure to him to make the presentation, completing what he felt was the outstanding feature of his year of office. The borough council thought that to raise at least £1,000 by voluntary methods would be almost impossible and decided to ask the rural district to join in. The majority of large fires were in the rural district and the method of taking the old steam fire engine was slow and unsafe and the engine itself was practically worn out.

50 Years Ago December 13, 1957 A SCHEME for the removal of accumulated silt from the River Cam at Chipping Campden, the trimming and shaping of the banks and the regarding of the bed of the stream for a distance of some 200 yards from Westington Hill has been prepared by the North Cotswold Rural District Council. The works are designed to eliminate flooding and were planned at the requirements of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, which ended a long-standing controversy by deciding that the RDC should carry out the necessary improvements. The scheme also provides for removal of an existing stone bridge and its replacement by a single span structure which would remove an obstruction in the bed.
