THERE will be roadworks taking place in Hampton Park Road in Hereford during the next two weeks.

Sections of the one kilometre stretch will be closed on weekdays between 9am and 5pm while resurfacing works take place.

The road resurfacing work is being carried out by Balfour Beatty Living Places on behalf of Herefordshire Council.

Road users are asked to follow diversion routes when travelling via Hampton Bishop.

The council said the daytime closures are required so that work can be carried out safely, using the best techniques to help prolong the life of the new road surface and offer improved road safety.

Drivers should follow diversion signs and may prefer to use alternative routes via Bartestree and Dormington or Rotherwas and Holme Lacy, and allow extra time when travelling during the day.

Barry Durkin, cabinet member for transport and regulatory services, said: “These works are essential for improving the route in and out of the city and road users will have a smoother and safer journey.

"The works were planned for next year but we have managed to bring them forward as we have available budget due to funding for other projects.

“We appreciate road closures are inconvenient, however they are required so that work can be carried out safely and using the best techniques to prolong the life of the road surface. We apologise for any delay, however the road is being closed during the day in sections during half-term, which should minimise disruption to residents and businesses.”

The Balfour Beatty team will ensure safe access to both residential and businesses during the works and ask drivers to drive carefully on temporary road surfaces.

The road closure will be in place between 9am and 5pm on Monday, February 19 to Friday, February 23 and Monday, February 26 to March 2, and the road will be fully open outside of these times and on weekends.

There will be some changes to bus services during the fortnight. The 454 will not run via Hampton Bishop on February 19 and 20 and between February 26 and March 1.

There will be an additional 453 service from Hampton Bishop (turning at the Bunch of Carrots pub) to and from the city centre.

The 75 Hampton Park service will not pick up from Hampton Park Road or Old Eign Hill and provide a reduced service on Hampton Dene Road from February 21 to 23 and from February 26 to March 1. Additional information is available from the bus companies.
