SHOCKING footage shows the moment an elderly Dudley jeweller was forced to defend himself against machete-wielding robbers.

Three masked men used a battering ram to smash open the door of Rofia Jewellers, Wellington Road, at 1.09pm on February 6.

An accomplice who had already gained entry to the shop watched on before holding the damaged door open for the trio as they run inside.

The moment the 82-year-old owner realises an armed robbery is taking place was captured on CCTV and he can been seen picking up a machete from behind the counter and preparing to defend himself.

Seconds later, one of the men, who is holding a machete in each hand, starts a 'sword fight' with the owner, who then falls backwards onto the floor - where he remains for the rest of the robbery.

Further footage shows the four robbers smashing display cabinets, stuffing jewellery into bags and fleeing in a white van.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said the owner - who is believed to have been hit on the head with a magnet - was taken to hospital for his injuries but discharged shortly after.

Investigations are on-going and anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting 20DY/29658Q/18.
