A SCHOOL has celebrated receiving a gold art award.

Dormer House School in Moreton has achieved a Gold Artsmark Award from the Arts Council UK in recognition of their commitment to an enriching arts curriculum.

The community outreach program on offer has been instrumental in their success for example providing theatre costumes for local schools to borrow for their shows, performing at local care homes, running an arts award club for local children and an annual community Shakespeare Day.

The specialist drama, dance, music and art teachers are thrilled that their work has been recognised on a national level.

"There is a fizz and a buzz about the arts at Dormer. The curriculum is presented from a creative perspective, drawing in all our pupils.

"Life is expecting much of them and achievement in the arts gives children confidence and the self esteem to tackle academic subjects head on" said head of drama Emily Scates.
