PICTURESQUE gardens will be opened up to raise money for a Grade 1 listed church.

The Winchcombe Open Gardens event takes place in June, showcasing 15 beautiful gardens in the town.

All proceeds raised on the day will go to the preservation of St Peter's Church.

Lisa Armstrong, co-organiser of the event said: "Winchcombe is a wonderful Anglo Saxon settlement which has a huge mixture of old and new properties.

"When I first visited the Winchcombe open gardens day I saw first-hand some of the amazing gems hidden behind tiny doors and some of the huge natural vistas which some could borrow from behind their properties.

"I can remember being shocked at some of the small gardens as they packed in so much looking like picture postcards and just being totally jealous of some.

"The people who open their gardens are kind and very helpful with your questions, often keen to show you around and be so proud of their wonderful spaces."

Dents Terrace which is normally a private terrace will be amongst the highlights of the day, giving the chance to view the work residents do on individual plots.

The gardens will be open from 2pm until 6pm on Sunday June 11 and cost £5 for entry to all 15 gardens.

Tickets and maps will be available to purchase from Monday May 29 at the Winchcombe tourist information office.

Tickets can also be bought on the day from any of the open gardens or from the Back Lane car park by the library.
