A COTSWOLD castle is calling on budding historians to become volunteers.

Sudeley Castle & Gardens in Winchcombe is asking people to offer at least one day a week of their time between Monday March 6 and Sunday October 29.

In return for volunteering, people will receive a family season pass, travel expenses, discount in the Terrace Cafe and full training.

Lady Ashcombe, who owns and lives at Sudeley Castle & Gardens, said: “With over 1,000 years of history to preserve, Sudeley requires a lot of love and attention, which is why we value our volunteers so highly.

“The work our dedicated volunteers carry out each season is vital in helping to keep the historical legacy of the castle and the splendour of the gardens alive.

“It’s not only the castle that benefits from the volunteer programme each year, individuals enrich their own lives by spending time with like-minded people in the most beautiful setting.

"We look forward to welcoming new volunteers for what is set to be our best season yet.”

Successful applicants can be expect their duties to include welcoming visitors, supporting guides in exhibition rooms, or helping to maintain the gardens.

No experience is necessary.
