A 27 year old man accused of breaking into a Winchcombe house and attacking a man with a knife will be sentenced next week after he pleaded guilty today to a charge of unlawful wounding.

Victim Nathan King suffered a punctured lung and a cut to his chin which needed stitches, Gloucester Crown Court was told.

In the dock was Jake Lillis, of no fixed address, who pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding Mr King on 8th January this year but denied aggravated burglary of a house in Binyon Rd, Winchcombe, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm while armed with a knife.

His pleas were accepted by Crown prosecutor Janine Wood and he was remanded in custody to appear before the court next Thursday, Feb 16, for sentence.

Mrs Wood said there was a 'domestic connotation' to the attack. The pleas were accepted because of the 'peculiar circumstances of the case,' she said.

Judge Cullum queried the prosecution decision not to proceed with the charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent but Mrs Wood said it had been carefully considered.

The judge said: "I won't stand in the way of that if it has been properly considered by the police, the victim and the witnesses. There is still going to be a significant custodial sentence in this case."
