A COTSWOLD town's Rotary Club says it could fold unless it finds new members.

Despite its shortage of members, Chipping Campden Rotary last year raised more money for local causes than ever before, but club officials fear that without new blood, it may have to cease its good work.

A race night in November raised over £4,000 for Campden Home Nursing, and the club's annual tree of light and mulled wine stall at the town's Christmas fair together raised well over £2,000.

Club spokesman James Anderson said: "We've got 11 members now, and we're at full stretch, Ideally we'd like to double that figure.

"The time has now come when we urgently need additional members to continue and improve what we do; otherwise, it is likely that this valuable work within our local communities may not be able to continue.

"An open evening is to be held at the Cotswold House Hotel on Thursday, March 9, for anyone to come along, both male and female, to meet with Rotarians as an opportunity to find out more about the club, its opportunities and activities, as well as its programme for the next six months, building particularly on the success of our charitable activities before Christmas.

"Those events were a great example of local charities working together to raise funds to help people within the local community and continue Rotary’s tradition of raising funds for various causes in the local community over the last quarter of a century not least its concern for the development of young people."

"In the past, there was a requirement to attend 60 per cent of meetings, but the Rotary movement recognises that the pressures of modern life have made change necessary. In order to attract new members the club has decided to modify its usual format - members now attend as often as they are able, as all have many important commitments.

To continue the good work we need to attract new members to share our fellowship and work, which is not only worthwhile, but also very enjoyable and great fun. Rotary members find that it provides them with fellowship, the opportunity for fundraising and not least fun in working together."
