A LOCAL police force will be showing a typical police day by holding a 24 hour Twitterthon.

Gloucestershire Police will tweet incoming calls to the force control room were appropriate as well as facts and figures about the force.

The Twitterthon will begin at 7am on Friday (January 13) and end at the same time on Saturday (January 14).

Ahead of the event, chief constable Suzette Davenport, said: “This Twitterthon is our chance to show you the variety of incidents we deal with on a daily basis.

“Police themed films and documentaries can give a dramatic and inaccurate portrayal of our work, but this event will showcase the reality of policing within Gloucestershire.

“We hope the Twitterthon will help our communities understand what it is we do all day, every day of the year to support them, help protect them from harm and bring offenders to justice.”

As well as tweeting incidents that the police have to deal with, the Twitterthon will also include an insight into various aspects of the force such as forensics, witness care, public protection bureau, incident response team, roads policing and custody.

The Twitterthon will take place on Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Twitter page at www.twitter.com/Glos_Police and on the hashtag: #GlosPol24

Forces across the country have been involved in such Twitterthon's in recent months, with neighbouring force West Mercia Police having a Tweethon in October 2016.
