CHILDREN from a Cotswold school have laid a wreath at a war memorial to remember those who died in the Battle of the Somme.

A party of children from Dormer House School in Moreton-in-Marsh went on the educational visit to Northern France.

As part of the trip they visited the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.

Head girl Georgie Campbell and Head Boy William Abery laid a wreath at the war memorial built to remember the 72,246 men from the British and South African armies who were declared missing in the Somme between July 1915 and March 1918.

The children were also able to practise their French and negotiating skills at the market in Etaples, and found out about the process of making goats cheese at a local farm.

Afterwards they enjoyed a cheese tasting.

The five day trip from Monday, October 10 to Friday, October 14 also included an historical tour of the village of Rue, some French souvenir shopping and the sampling of frogs’ legs, snails, croissants, hot chocolate and crepes.
