YORKSHIRE Water contractors were stood down earlier this week as a health a safety precaution following an accident.

Contractors have been working in the Eccleshill area replacing old lead pipes with plastic.

But on Monday work was stopped throughout the county.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: "Last Friday, one of our contract partner colleagues suffered a minor injury whilst working at Don Valley sewage pumping station in Sheffield. As a precautionary measure he was assessed in hospital but thankfully discharged just a few hours later.

"Health and safety is our number one priority and because of this incident we decided to shut down all of our construction sites across the region on Monday. This enabled us to meet with the contract partner and re-enforce the importance of safe working practices."

The construction sites were due to resume work on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
