SPORTING elite in the horse racing, cricket and golfing world enjoyed a charity golf day in Chipping Norton recently when more than £6,000 was raised for a local man who is battling illness.
Top jockeys AP McCoy, Richard Johnson, John Francombe and Carl Llewellyn, went along to the fundraiser at The Cotswold Club where they were made honorary members. There was also South African cricketing legend Barry Richards, who heaped praise on the quality of the golf course, and golf professional Danny Phillips.
The day had been hosted by Gordon Clarkson in aid of Darren Lynn, known among his racing friends as 'Mad Daz', who is currently fighting leukaemia. As a result his friends decided to host a charity golf day for him.
Other organisers included Andrew Tinkler, Warren Marston and Richard Phillips Racing.
After a competitive 18-round game of golf the evening was followed by an evening meal and an auction.
