A YEAR eight pupil at The Cotswold School has made a good start to his summer school break by winning Olympic gold in a team event in America.

Thirteen-year-old Aidan Hughes was a member of the U-12 British inline puck hockey team which travelled to Corona, California this July to compete in the USA Amateur Athletic Union’s Junior Olympics.

A spokesperson from the British Inline Puck Hockey Association said: "One of the greatest accolades any sports person can be given, is the opportunity to represent their country at their given sport. Hard work, dedication, not to mention outstanding ability are just some of the attributes needed to be recognized as one of the best in your chosen sport."

The British team won gold at the Olympics and then went on to compete in the World Championships, again taking gold.

Aidan is looking forward to competing in the European Championships in Switzerland in August.
