A TODDLER was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a small van in Willersey, near Broadway.

The boy, believed to be aged three, was anaesthetised before being rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital by helicopter for emergency treatment.

But the three-year-old is "making good progress" - despite a bad cut to his forehead - and should be out of hospital within a few days, according to police.

The incident took place in Badsey Lane just after 6pm on Friday, July 17, and involved a small, white Ford Transit van.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent one ambulance, a paramedic support officer and a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle to the scene while Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance provided one of its helicopter teams.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Crews arrived to find a child had been in collision with a small van in Willersey.

“A male child, believed to be three-years-old, was treated for serious head injuries.

“The young child was anaesthetised by a doctor before he was airlifted to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Gloucestershire Constabulary similarly attended the crash, closing the road briefly and examining the vehicle involved.

But officers are no longer investigating the incident and have provided an update on the boy's condition.

A police spokesman said: "The boy is making a good recovery.

“He suffered a bad cut to his forehead but is expected to leave hospital in the next few days.

“Officers do not think there is any need for further police action on this road traffic collision.”

A spokesman for Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance added: “We aided West Midlands Ambulance Service in assessing and treating the patient, who was a young male child who had been involved in a road traffic collision.

“He had sustained serious head injuries and was flown to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further care.”
