A COTSWOLD pub is raising a glass to its success after winning a prestigious award.
Bourton-on-the-Hill's Horse and Groom has been announced the winner of the Best Pub Restaurant category at the Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards, which celebrates the very best in food and drink in the Cotswold region.
Nominations by customers meant the pub was selected as one of three finalists, facing tough competition from the Kingham Plough and the Mount Inn at Stanton.
It was then down to a mystery visit from the judging panel to decide the winner.
The awards took place at Cheltenham Racecourse where 450 guests and sponsors including Countryfile's Adam Henson joined the finalists to hear the results.
The pub's proprietor, Tom Greenstock, said: "“I was absolutely delighted when they read out our name.
“I had been more and more nervous as our category edged closer — I was trying to remain relaxed but it would have been tough to take if we hadn’t won. As it was I couldn’t stop grinning. It is the best birthday present ever, as we’ve been here ten years this month.”
The Horse and Groom was praised by judges for having a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere and for supporting local breweries.
Mr Greenstock took over the running of the pub with his brother, Will, in July 2005.
