AWARD-winning chef Emily Watkins has earned another string to her bow after her pub The Kingham Plough was named in the Top 100 UK Restaurants.

The pub, run by Emily and her husband Miles Lampson since 2007 has been ranked 72 out of 100 throughout the UK following the National Restaurant of the Year awards at the Hurlingham Club.

The awards were held by Restaurant magazine in association with Estrella Damm and voters were made up of 150 industry experts from across the country which included chefs, restaurateurs, food writers and critics who all determine which restaurants make the top 100 list. The voters were given seven votes based on their best restaurant experiences from the last 12 months and were then listed in order of preference but included restaurants both in the voter’s home region and outside it. Once all votes were cast the Restaurant magazine created the top 100 list.

Miss Watkins, whose culinary career includes working for Heston Blumenthal at his restaurant The Fat Duck, and whose accolades including winning The Great British Menu in 2014 with her fish course, was thrilled to have been included in the awards saying: “I’m totally astonished to have got into the top 100 restaurants in the UK and very proud to have come in at 72. Well done all at The Kingham Plough.”

Earlier on this year The Kingham Plough’s bedrooms underwent a refurbishment and now boast six individually styled bedrooms suitable for families, couples and those with dogs. Alongside this, a new kitchen was installed by Target Catering to create more space. The kitchen refurbishment also carefully incorporated the need for lower energy usage – to be more cost effective and help the environment – by including induction hobs, water conserving dishwashers and energy saving refrigeration.

The Kingham Plough was also recently awarded with an impressive Two Star rating by the Sustainable Restaurant Association. They were accredited with a score of 68 per cent, just two per cent away from the highest Three Star rating. The Year of 2015 has already been a very exciting time for the team at The Kingham Plough who are delighted to have been accredited these awards.
