THE end of term will see children from Blockley Primary School saying goodbye to teacher Liz Drinkwater who is taking early retirement after almost 25 years with the school.

Mrs Drinkwater has been teaching in Gloucestershire since 1977 and joined the Blockley teaching team in 1991.

On leaving teacher training college, she worked as a welfare assistant caring for twins who were being integrated into a mainstream school. She then taught Key Stage 1 children at Longborough Primary School and St James and Ebrington School.

Returning to teaching after taking time out to have her own children, Mrs Drinkwater became a part-time special needs teacher for the North Cotswolds. Since working at Blockley she has enjoyed her role as university student mentor, literacy lead and classroom teacher. Her future plans are to keep in touch with Blockley School by hearing children read and helping to organise the school library.

She is also looking forward to spending more time with her grand-daughter, helping in the family business and learning how to use her new tablet.
