A FARMER'S wife from Swalcliffe is the new general secretary of Moreton Show.

Sarah Taylor, 32, runs a cross-country and livery business with her husband, Richard, and has a wide experience of working at shows, including the Horse of the Year Show, the Royal Show at Stoneleigh and the London Olympics in 2012, where she helped produce the spectacular floral displays at the equestrian events. While working on the National Poultry Show at Stoneleigh, she helped boost entries from 1,500 to 8,500 birds.

She said: "I’ve often been to Moreton Show and I’m thrilled to be working on such a fabulous show with all its wonderful history and heritage.

"For 2015, we’re continuing our tradition of showcasing the best of the British countryside, combining farming and livestock with some great family entertainment. Staging the show is a real team effort and everyone has been really welcoming.

Meanwhile, a record number of entries are expected for the companion dog show which has been organised for the past 20 years by Diane Dewbery, of Pet Necessities, in Moreton.

She said: “Dog shows are growing in popularity as people love showing off their pets and I fully expect the numbers to go up this year.

“We had more than 80 dogs entered last year and with 16 classes this time, I can see that figure rising. We are a nation of dog lovers and people love dog shows.”

Held under Kennel Club Rules, the companion dog show includes obedience classes as well as opportunities for man’s best friend to show off their appealing eyes and waggiest tales. There’s even a prize for the dog that the judge would most like to take home.

Added Diane: “It can get quite competitive, especially in the obedience classes because children often come to the show after lots of training sessions at home.”

Moreton Show will be staged on Saturday, September 5th and is one of the country’s biggest one-day agricultural shows. Tickets are now on sale at www.moretonshow.co.uk
