A MORETON dad has completed a gruelling 10k Wolf Run to raise money for a charity that helped save his baby's life.

Thirty-nine-year-old national account manager Mike Blissett tacked the hard core run with friends and work colleagues from FPS Distribution, in Stratford Business Park, in mid-April and raised more than £2,500 for Meningitis Research Foundation.

They 20-strong group overcame off-road running at a venue in Leamington that included mud, trail and obstacle routes that took competitors over open ground and through woodland, lakes and thick mud.

Mr Blissett's son, Noah, is now a healthy and happy little boy, but it was touch and go for him after contracting bacterial meningitis when he was just a few days old.

“Noah was treated in hospital for a month. His early stages in life were the most stressful for us as parents. Tests for all the 'nasties' such as brain damage, deafness, blindness etc were the most stressful times in our lives. All the tests thankfully proved negative for any long term issues. His physical development was stunted slightly and he didn't walk until he was two. But apart from all these worrying times Noah is a healthy, happy little boy.

“Meningitis Research Foundation is a great cause that genuinely saves lives, like my son's, and helps to improve lives of other people perhaps not as fortunate as Noah who have been affected by meningitis.”

Chris Head at Meningitis Research Foundation said: “We are extremely grateful to Mike for running the Wolf Run in April on our behalf as he is aware meningitis and septicaemia are deadly diseases which can strike without warning, killing in hours.

"We rely on voluntary donations to fund our vital work into the prevention, detection and treatment of the diseases and support those affected, so every penny he raises by running in this race will make a huge difference to the charity.”
