EARLY Easter treats were the order of the day at Moreton Playgroup as parents and staff celebrated the group achieving the Bristol standard.

The Bristol Standard Award Certificate is awarded for quality of service to pre-school children and their families and this is the second year Moreton Playgroup has received the accolade.

It also proves the pre-school with a quality mark that is recognised by other external accessors of standards including Ofsted.

Everyone involved has demonstrated dedication to the programme of self-assessment and continuous quality improvement under the guidance of a mentor. During the last year this has involved introducing the use of 'total communication' (signing and words), making more use of natural materials and open-ended resources as well as encouraging the children to take a more active role in planning playgroup activities.

Nicola Rolton, playleader said: "Moreton Playgroup is a very proud recipient of the Bristol Standards Award, that shows the commitment of Staff and Committee members to continually reflect on and review the good practice already established. It ensures children at the playgroup benefit from a family friendly, enabling environment for their learning and development in the Early Years foundation stage. Our ultimate aim is to provide opportunity for everyone involved to learn together.’’

The Easter fun morning celebration involved the children, family members, staff and committee members who enjoyed arts and crafts activities, cartoons, music, a raffle and an outdoor Easter Egg Hunt.

Eggs for the children and an Easter egg hamper were donated by Warner's Budgens, Moreton.

Jerry Tweney, manager of Warner's Budgens said: "We are thrilled to be able to support this celebration for a well-deserved award, particularly as the laygroup provides such a valuable amenity for local families."
