GREAT excitement greeted the arrival of the former Blockley WI president Sheila Weir in her motorcycle and sidecar carrying the WI centenary baton, accompanied by the stirring recorded sound of ‘Jerusalem’ to Ebrington.

Ebrington WI members dressed in period style to celebrate the country's marking of 100 years of the Women's Institute movement. Guests and WI members watched the formal baton handover to president June Satterthwaite who then joined the group as they set off through the village to Chipping Campden in a vintage tractor and trailer, courtesy of the Drinkwater family.

Specially made banners were waved and children from Ebrington Primary School cheered the group on their way.

Chipping Campden town mayor Chris Jones was among the welcoming party as Ebrington completed their ceremonial handover. From Chipping Campden the baton made its way to Willersey in a vintage motorcar.
