IT will be a trip down memory lane for many Stow residents when legendary 60s singer Andy Fairweather Low rocks up to St Edward's Church with his special brand of blues, country, soul, gospel and rock and roll.

Promoted by Music at Stow, the maestro and his Low Riders will be making a first visit to the Cotswolds, a feat not achieved even when leading Amen Corner back in the day and who went on to become the "go-to" guitar for many including Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Roger Waters, Van Morrison and Chris Barber.

Despite an endless list of playing with some of the world's best, Fairweather Low's solo career spawned more hits culminating with Wide Eyed and Legless at the end of 1975. In the mid-1980s he became the ultimate Guitarist to the Stars, building an extraordinary reputation that has endured to this day. A fixture in Eric Clapton’s band since the early-1990s, he toured with the legend until 2003 and was also asked to be part of Clapton’s UK tour in 2009.

Fairweather Low has also been a regular member of Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings since the 1980s. In 2007, Fairweather Low formed The Low Riders - Paul Beavis (Drums), Dave Bronze (Bass & Vocals) and Nick Pentelow (Sax and Clarinet) and has been touring regularly in the UK, Europe and Japan.

Tom Knight, of Music at Stow, said: “Our aim is always to bring big names to a small place so we are thrilled to have Andy at St Edward’s for what will be a special night.

“St Edward’s is a beautiful church with a special atmosphere and wonderful acoustics.

“Last autumn, Fairport Convention headlined the first Music at Stow festival and they loved playing in the church. People loved seeing the church absolutely packed out. Our aim is to bring world class music to the north Cotswolds and to put our historic church at the heart of the community.”

The musical event takes place on Saturday, April 18th. Tickets are £20 for unreserved seats and are available now from the Cotswold Cricket Museum and from the Borzoi Bookshop in Church Street.
