MOST people out fishing early in the morning are looking for something to put on their supper plate.

Not so for Moreton resident Ali Coggins who was spotted by a passer-by trying to land an unusual catch from Horse Pool.

"It's probably the heaviest thing I've landed but luckily it didn't put up much of a fight," she said. "As residents we're always picking up discarded wine bottles, beer cans and crisp packets etc but this is a first."

The black plastic bin was fished out of Horse Pool on Tuesday morning but had been thrown in at some point between Friday and Monday morning.

"It's disheartening to see such mindless behaviour. The pool is maintained by the town council and I know a couple of people from neighbouring houses kindly feed the ducks through the winter months to keep them alive when food is scarce.

"The Horse Pool is one of the town's assets and the resident ducks are certainly well known locally and can often be found crossing the main road or just waddling on into town.

"Luckily I don't think their will be any environmental damage as the bin comes in two parts with the receptacle for the rubbish secured to the adjacent grass verge. The part retrieved from the pool was the plastic covering.

Happily the bin and its cover have been reunited.
