YOUNG chefs at Chipping Campden School had a real incentive to take part in a school cookery competition - the chance to see their signature dish on a hotel menu.

Now in its third year, the competition, organised through the BITE Food Festival, attracted a number of entries across all the year groups and together they turned the design and technology department into a professional-looking kitchen.

The prize included dinner for four people and for the winning dish to appear on the menu of The Cotswold House Hotel whose head chef Pasquale Rosso was one of the judges.

The 20 entrants had just one-and-half-hours to prepare, cook and present their dishes which culminated in a range of entries put forward with inspiration drawn from around the world

The winning dish, cooked by Year 8 student Josh Oxton, was seared tuna and scallops, noodle salad and Thai dipping sauce.

The BITE Food Festival continues throughout the week, with events across the Cotswolds, including a Real Ale dinner at The Noel Arms on Thursday Feb 5; an England vs Wales rugby dinner on Friday February 6 at Ellenborough Park, hosted by rugby legend Phil Vickery and a food fair in the centre of Chipping Campden on Saturday February 7.

Other events include meet the chef, book signings, food fairs and farmers' markets.
