VOLUNTEERS are to give their time to help dispel the stigma surrounding mental illness on National Awareness Day.

As part of a national ‘Time to Talk’ day being supported locally by West Oxfordshire District Council, volunteers will be giving information, advice and the opportunity for a friendly chat in the reception and cafe area of the Council’s Elmfield Offices in New Yatt Road, Witney.

The stall will be run on Thursday February 5, from 10am to 2pm by volunteers including Paul Hicks, of Witney, who has previously suffered mental illness.

Mr Hicks will be on hand to talk about his experiences and the support that is available.

‘Time to Talk’ is calling upon people to take five minutes out of their day to have a conversation about mental wellbeing. The day is being organised by the Time to Change campaign to end stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health.

The council officially pledged to join the campaign last year.
