PRIMARY School children learned how to run a reception, operate tills and greet visitors last week when they spent the day with volunteers at Court Barn Museum of Craft and Design, in Chipping Campden.

The youngsters from St Catharine's Primary School spent the day with a team of volunteers and their enthusiasm was not missed.

Museum volunteer David George said: "The children were as keen as mustard to take over the museum jobs, and their eagerness and good manners, makes it a pleasure to help motivate them to learn more."

The day was inspired by the Guildsmen and the Great War display and each pupil was involved in all the activities including meeting and greeting visitors, answering the phone and using the till.

The calligraphy workshop culminated in the making of a book of remembrance. They also took a guided walk around Chipping Campden and looked at some of the buildings connected to Charles Ashbee and the Guildsmen with reference to WW1.

Court Barn has been involved for several years in Takeover Days, which are the initiative of the Children’s Commissioner and are a great way for children and young people to get involved in decision making and to develop their thinking and team work skills.
