A TRAINEE solicitor has been chosen to represent the Labour Party for the Cotswolds' constituency in next year's general election.

Twenty-seven-year-old Manjinder Kang, from Tamworth, was selected by Party members as the person charged with winning the party the seat in May 2015.

Mr Kang is currently employed by a law firm in Birmingham and is due to qualify as a solicitor in February next year. He studied for his law degree in Nottingham and later worked for a law firm in the South-West.

Speaking after the meeting Mr Kang said:

“I am delighted to have received the backing of the members in the Cotswolds to take on the challenge to elect a Labour MP here in 2015.

"The Cotswolds are not immune to the impact of the Tory and Liberal government’s cuts and decisions. People here worry about the rising cost of living, changes to their NHS services and access to good education. I firmly believe that the younger generation has been let down by this coalition government due to extortionate tuition fees and the difficulty of finding suitable employment.

"Thousands of students have spent a fortune on their education, only to find that there are no suitable jobs available in the workplace, and this is simply appalling.

"I shall be working hard over the next few months, with our local Party and the community, to ensure that the Cotswolds have a Labour MP to be their voice on these and many other issues come 2015.”

Andy Woolley, Chair the Cotswolds Labour party added: “I'm delighted we have selected Manjinder as our candidate. He has shown the membership of the Cotswolds Labour Party that he could make a real difference for the people of the constituency as its Labour MP. I believe that our policies and our excellent candidate will convince the electorate that there is a real alternative for our area. Our members are delighted to get behind Manjinder in his campaign to bring change to the Cotswolds.”
