IF you are going to do something tremendous for charity and your name is Sky, then jumping from the top of the 855 feet high Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas would seem be the most appropriate.

August next year will see Sky Keegan and her mum, Helen, take on such a challenge which is classified in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's highest decelerator decent. They will launch themselves from the 108th floor of the tower, directly above the Las Vegas strip.

Mrs Keegan said they were doing the jump to raise money for The Sam Pilcher Trust, a charity that they started when their friend, 11-year-old Sam Pilcher, from Upper Slaughter, died from leukaemia in 2010.

Mrs Keegan, who is secretary of the charity and also from Upper Slaughter said: "We are now a fully registered charity and making around £14,000 a year through local events and donations. We help and support children and their families while they undergo their treatment and we help families financially and work directly with Bristol Children's Hospital and Gloucester Royal Children's Hospital.

Their fundraising continues Sam's good work as he had started to raise money for charity while he was in remission.

"This is a huge challenge for us both. My daughter will only be 16 years old so and I am funding the challenge myself with no money coming from the trust," she added.

The daredevil due are hoping to raise £1,000 for the trust through donations through the Helen Keegan Justgiving page or by texting SKHK50 along with the donation amount to 70070.
