MEMBERS and guests at Winchcombe’s Day Care Centre raised £360 for charity after staging a commemoration afternoon tea marking the start of the First World War.

More than 100 supporters turned out to see a special display of war memorabilia, a banner of 425 ‘Lest we forget’ hand-knitted poppies and to listen to war songs from the era courtesy of the Monday Members Day Centre Choir.

Staff and volunteers provided afternoon tea with all proceeds in aid of forces charity Help for Heroes.

Centre manager Carol Baker, said: “It really was a fantastic afternoon. We had dozens of people visiting us and they were all very interested in reading and seeing the original pictures, letters, medals and memorabilia from the WWI soldiers we had.

“The display of poppies was very impressive and we’d like to thank everyone who supported us and came along on the day.”
