VETERANS and town leaders gathered together in Evesham to commemorate the anniversary of the end of the war in the Far East in 1945.

On Friday, August 15, a ceremony was held at the Almonry Gardens, in Evesham, to mark the end of the conflict.

Members of the Evesham branch of the Royal British Legion and guests, including Deputy Mayor Cllr Fred Kaler, and members of the Worcester Branch of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association paraded at the Burma Star Memorial near the Almonry Gates.

The ceremony was held to mark the anniversary of the war in the Far East and to honour those that fought and fell in the Burma Campaign.

The service was conducted by Canon Peter Burch, Padre to the Evesham Royal British Legion.

Wreaths were laid by Major Jeremy Farrow, branch treasurer, Roy Bates, branch vice chairman, and Maurice Smith, secretary of the Worcester Branch of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association.
