MORETON Town Council is paying a fond farewell to its clerk Heather Sipthorp who is standing down after 10 years of service.

Vice-chairman Ruth Winder paid tribute to her at Monday night’s meeting and said she was a “huge asset” both to the council and the town as a whole.

“She’s worked tirelessly and will be much missed,” she said.

Mrs Sipthorp, who is leaving to concentrate more on the family business, said: “I’ve really enjoyed working here, I’ve met some amazing people, dedicated members of council.

“I’ve worked with some fantastic officers and ward and district councillors. It’s a lovely town and I’ve always had a soft spot for Moreton. I will miss the town very much.

“It’s a thankless task at times but it’s the people that come in and thank you that keep you going. I’m sure the new clerk will bring some fresh blood. You’ve got a young membership and I wish you well.

“This is my last meeting but I will be coming in as and when in the interim.”

Cllr Winder added interviews have been held and they had made an appointment for a replacement clerk who would be confirmed at the next meeting.

Moreton district councillor Rod Hooper, a former chairman and town council member, added: “I would like to thank the clerk for all her hard work.

“Over the last 30 odd years I’ve been town councillor we’ve had a lot of clerks and they’ve all been good but Heather’s been exceptional. When she didn’t know something she would go to meetings and learn more about it.

“On behalf of residents I would like to thank Heather.”

Meanwhile, Lys Cowap, who lives in the east of the town, was co-opted on to the council at the same meeting.
