THE much-awaited community hub in Bourton could be in use by the end of August, the parish council has said.

As previously reported, Gloucestershire County Council bought the redundant Moore Cottage Hospital site last March which will be taken over by the parish council and converted it into a new parish council office, a library, police hub, a community cafe and activity area.

It has been full steam ahead since plans to convert the listed part of the building into a new community centre and two flats was approved by Cotswold District Council on February 28.

The new hub will also be the home of Gloucestershire County Council's care services for the North Cotswolds and will house some health related activities, which are still under negotiation.

Contractors, Beard, have been working hard to get the building ready and it is hoped the parish council will move in by the end of the summer.

Speaking at this month's council meeting, chairman Bryan Sumner said: "Everything's moving apace. It looks like we will be having the building handed over to us sometime towards the end of August and we're hoping to take occupation between the end of August and early September."

Vice-chairman Tim Faulkner added: "I think it's going to look very good. As good as it can in that type of building. I'm relatively pleased with the way it's progressing."
