MEMBERS of an Evesham church are taking part in a worldwide project which will make tracing people's ancestors much easier.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, High Street, is hosting an “Indexathon” on Saturday which is taking place from 8am to 8pm and will be attended by Evesham Mayor Charlie Homer.

The aim of the project is to enter details from a wide variety of sources such as electoral registers, war records including the First World War and parish registers into a single database so people can make faster and more efficient searches for their ancestors online.

It is hoped 10,000 records will be indexed on the day and people are invited to join in and bring a laptop capable of connecting to the Internet.

Noel Greaves, who serves as the local Minister, said: “As a church we believe very strongly in the importance of families and through family history we help to develop a better understanding of our ancestors and ourselves.

"We are happy to help anyone with family history and any volunteers with an interest in completing the database are welcome to join us.”

The event is taking place in the second floor, Clifton Chambers, 52 High Street, which is accessible from Oat Street. Anyone interested in Genealogy and family history is welcome to join in.
