A CRICKET museum in Stow has hit a six with visitors after it was awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence just over two years since opening.

Owner Andy Collier, who runs the Cotswold Cricket Museum Brewery Yard, in Sheep Street, with his wife Marian, said he was delighted to receive the certificate from the world's largest travel site.

Now in its fourth year, the award celebrates hospitality excellence and is given only to eateries, accommodation and attractions which consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor.

Establishments across the globe are awarded the Certificate of Excellence and represent the upper echelon of businesses listed on the website.

The museum is a labour of love for Mr Collier who gave up his career as an electrician in Guildford and moved to Stow with his wife to open the museum after wanting to share his cricket collection with others.

"We're extremely pleased," he said. "It's a big thing giving up your life to start something up like this. To be well thought of by the cricketing world and people that come, is very nice. It could have been a complete flop."

Mr Collier said the museum had received 36 'excellent' reviews and 10 or 12 'very good'.

"We're pretty pleased with that," he said. "We've had some great reviews. When people come and say it's better than Lords it makes you feel good."

The museum also has a cafe, is home to the Tourist Information Centre and holds music events the last Thursday of every month.

Its next music session will be from guitarist John Etheridge who is playing on Thursday, June 26 at 8pm. Tickets are £20 and are available by calling the museum on 01451 870083.

South African cricketer Mark Proctor, Gloucestershire's famous son, is also set to give a question and answer session next month at the museum.
