10:02am Saturday 14th June 2014 in News
CHIPPING Campden School has become the first secondary school in the UK to unveil a ‘Phiz Lab’.
The new facility is part of a ground-breaking science venture funded by physics educational charity, The Ogden Trust.
The Phiz Lab will be used to extend the learning of science to primary children and provide an opportunity for them to work and study in a dedicated science laboratory where resources are more widely available.
It will also be used as a national training centre for primary and secondary teachers from across the UK.
Tim Simmons, Chief Executive of The Ogden Trust cut ribbon at the official opening on Monday before world-renowned physicist Keith Gibbs led a session for 30 children from four cluster primary schools in the area.
Jackie Flaherty, Head of Physics at Chipping Campden School and an Ogden Trust Teacher Fellow, said: "We are delighted to have this special facility as part of our science department here at Chipping Campden School to inspire and enthuse the scientists of the future.
"The primary children now have a specialist classroom which they are excited to enter. They can put on their lab coats and become fully immersed in the science-environment around them."
