A VINTAGE car show near Chipping Norton has been hailed the best yet by organisers.

More than 3,000 people turned out for Churchill's vintage and classic car show on Sunday, held every two years on the large village green next to All Saints’ Church.

Now in its 13th year, the event attracted more than 570 cars along with stalls, a jazz band and barbecue and the church was open with a themed floral display.

David Chamber, chairman of the organising committee, said it was a great succecss.

"It went extremely well," he said. "We were very pleased, it was the best show we've had so far.

"We've been told it's the biggest independent show in the country. I can't complain about anything, it went very smoothly. Everything went very well, all the volunteers did excellent work."

Proceeds from the show are still being counted but most of the monies will be donated to The Chipping Norton Theatre, Lawrence Nurses and The Cystic Fibrosis Trust with the rest given to village organisations.

The original Car Show described as “A Cavalcade of Cars” was held as part of a village event to raise funds for the restoration of the church and attracted 38 cars.
