COUT Barn Museum's summer exhibition in Chipping Campden is celebrating the designer Robert Welch.

The exhibition, which runs from Saturday, July 19 to Sunday, September 28, will look the Campden designer's inspiration and influences, his relationship with his customers, the commissions he has worked on and how this has created some exceptional pieces.

It will also explore the enduring appeal of his designs and how the company has adapted over the years while staying true to his original philosophy, 'aesthetically pleasing, functional, timeless'.

Sarah McCormck Healy, museum curator, said it was a fantastic opportunity for the museum.

"We have an international design company based in Chipping Campden, which is still run by the family," she said. "Exploring the continuing appeal of Robert Welch designs and looking at how some of his iconic pieces are still being made today is a great way to showcase modern designers and the process of making. We are delighted”.

Robert Welch came to Chipping Campden in the 1950s after graduating from the Royal College of Art and set up his studio in the Silk Mill, the workshops once used by the Arts & Crafts leader C.R. Ashbee.

In 1969, he opened a small studio shop on Campden High Street, and today, almost 50 years later Robert Welch Designs is a highly successful international company.

Alice Welch, Robert Welch's daughter and Marketing Director of Robert Welch Designs, added:

“To have the support and expertise locally to host such an important exhibition is a great opportunity for Robert Welch Designs.

"To pass on the story of the company’s evolution in design over the last 60 years to museum visitors gives myself and my brother Rupert a great sense of pride. We look forward to working with Court Barn on delivering this capsule of Robert Welch’s work”.
