FARMS will be throwing open their gates to the public this weekend for Open Farm Sunday.

To celebrate British farming and food, visitors are encouraged to get out into the countryside on Sunday and meet the farmers who grow their food and care for the countryside.

Old Farm, in Dorn, near Moreton, is open from 11am to 3pm and will have sheep shearing, cider tasting, butchery demonstrations, a farm walk and the chance to see the animals and machines up close.

There will also be a pig roast and cheese tasting and this year, thanks to neighbouring farmers Rob and Emma Harrison, there will be tractor and trailer rides around the farm.

Sarah Righton, who runs the farm with her husband Simon, said they were hoping for fine weather like last year.

"Let's hope we have more of the same for the weekend but if it does look a bit dodgy just get your wellies on," she said.

"Come and see where "Nigel and Adam's Farm Kitchen" was filmed and there's still a chance to buy some of the flour produced for the program."

Nosehill Farm, Chalk Hill, near Stow, is opening from 2pm to 5pm and will have a host of things to see including pet lambs and sheep, a fossil display, meet the Cotswold Keeper, pond dipping and a farm walk at 4pm.

Tanya Robbins, from Nosehill Farm, said: “There is a lot to celebrate about British farming and food – so do come and join us on our small family farm for Open Farm Sunday and find out more.

"My family and I are really looking forward to welcoming everyone and showing them around the far.”

Also open from noon on Sunday is Hailes Fruit Farm, near Winchcombe.

There will be tractor and trailer rides around the orchards, a mini farmers market and demonstrations along with a barbecue.
