CROWDS are set to flock to Chipping Campden this weekend for a famous Cotswold event.

The Cotswold Olimpicks returns to Dover's Hill tomorrow (Friday) with all the usual favourites including races, games, music and entertainment.

Also known as Robert Dover's Games, the event starts at 7pmwith fairground activities at the top of the hill and a variety of entertainment before the games start with Robert Dover making his entrance on horseback to the castle in the lower arena.

People can look forward to the infamous shin-kicking contest and Tug o'War followed by a torch-lit procession into Campden and live music in the square.

Chairman Graham Greenall said they were hoping for some fine weather tomorrow and had even managed to enlist the help of more volunteers.

"The forecast appears to be getting better," he said. "I'm quietly confident. Everybody's been very co-operative and helpful. We've recruited not quite double figures but very close."

In the past, celebrities have queued up to take part in the infamous shin-kicking, including Rory McGrath and Patrick McGuinness and television presenter Ben Fogle who took part in 2012.

But Greenall said this year's event would be more local.

"This year, we're more or less home grown," he said. "But I would anticipate next year or the one after because it's an Olympic year events will revive and somebody will turn up and take advantage of that.

"The event is quite an important thing in terms of community that the traditions that have been with us for this long are treated with the same respect as other traditions are.

"It's got a great depth of history, it's relevant and acknowledged world wide. It's quite important to the history of the area."

Entry wristbands are £6 for adults and £3 for children under 16 and will be on sale in the main Square, Campden, on the day of the Games from 11am or at the gate on Dovers Hill from 6.30pm.
