AN eight-year-old girl touched by the Philippines typhoon disaster has had her long locks chopped for charity.

Libby Cooke, who lives in Ebrington, near Chipping Campden, celebrated her birthday on May 9 in an usual way when she had her brown hair cut at Hair Technique, in Stratford.

The Ebrington Primary School pupil has raised nearly £670 for Save the Children and the children affected by Typhoon Haiyan which tore through the Philippines last November and is donating her hair to Cancer Research.

Her mum Petra said her daughter was a little overwhelmed by it all at first when she first had saw her new hair do.

"She burst into tears when she saw her new hair style, but she soon got used to it and loves it now, washing her hair takes only a few minutes," she said.

"The day after her haircut we went to Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour and when they found out what she had done they allowed her to open the doors to Hogwarts to start our tour.

"Hair Technique in Stratford were brilliant and Michelle who cut her hair was great although a bit nervous at first, Libby gave her a bunch of flowers to say thank you."
