TOWN councillors in Chipping Norton praised the work of the mayor and his deputy as they were officially sworn in for another year.

Councillors unanimously voted in favour of Mike Tysoe continuing as Mayor for the Municipal year 2014/15 at a ceremony last night (Monday) in the town hall.

In a speech, Cllr Tysoe thanked everyone for their support over the last year and highlighted some activities including work on the New Street recreation ground and much-needed town hall repairs.

He also said the council were looking forward to long-awaited resurfacing work being carried out in Walterbush Road in October but said converting the former police station into a town asset might have to be put into the “too hard box”.

Thanking him for the past year, Councillor Jo Graves paid tribute to his achievements and for being a person who “likes to get things done.”

“Just as I hoped when I commended him for the mayor last year, he’s certainly lived up to the expectations and really outshone them,” she said.

“The qualities and skills which I hoped he would bring really have shone through. It’s resulted in a year of achievements.”

Cllr Tysoe said it was an “honour” that councillors had elected him as mayor for a second term and controlling new development in the town would be an “enormous challenge” over the next year.

Councillor Chris Butterworth was also elected deputy mayor for a second year.
