IT is all change at Moreton Town Council after a new chairman and vice-chairman were elected.

Councillor Ali Coggins stepped down from her role as chairman at Monday night's meeting and Councillor Tom Lewis was elected in her place.

Members also voted for Councillor Ruth Winder to be his vice-chairman.

Cllr Coggins said she decided to step down to focus on matters important to her but is continuing as chairman of the allotment committee and member of the planning committee.

"Last year I intended to set up a community group but time alluded me once I was appointed chairman," she said.

"I've now started a Moreton Action Group with a dedicated Facebook page with a view to bringing together local residents to litter pick and tidy up the public gardens as well as organise events such as rounders, the big lunch to engender some community spirit."

Cllr Coggins added she had enjoyed her time as chairman and said she was still an active member of the council.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed it," she said. "It's been a big learning curve."
