A NURSERY near Shipston has joined in the Poppy Seed Campaign which encourages people to plant poppies to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

Children at Winchcombe Farm Day Nursery in Upper Tysoe have scattered special packs of Flanders poppy seeds in their Forest School, which they hope to see flower later in the year.

The campaign, which is being run by the Royal British Legion, will see the UK awash with poppies during the centenary period of the First World War in commemorate those who lost their lives.

Nursery Manager Rachel Giorgio said: "We’ve planted five packs of the special poppy seeds in our forest school and will be watching them grown over the coming months.

!We are very pleased to take part in this campaign and raise funds for a very worthy cause and are looking forward to having a very colorful array of poppies later in Forest School later in the year.

“As well as taking part in this campaign, we will also be celebrating Armed Forces Day once again this year and look forward to receiving a visit from a solider from MOD Kineton to tell us all about what they do.”

The funds raised by the campaign will go towards the £1.6 million the Legion spends each week on welfare to the Armed Forces community.
