PART of the southbound and northbound carriageway of the M5 will be repaired in a series of overnight closures next week.

Road markings and studs are being replaced on the M5 southbound between junction 7 near Worcester and junction 8 near Tewkesbury from Monday.

The work, which ends on Thursday, May 22 will be carried out overnight and there will be a full closure of the southbound carriageway between 9.30pm and 5.30am.

Traffic will be diverted via the A44, A4440, A38 and M50 to rejoin the M5 at junction 8.

Meanwhile, The Highways Agency is also resurfacing a section of the M5 northbound between junction 7 and 8 near Worcester from Wednesday, May 14.

The northbound carriageway will be closed between the two junctions for two nights, from 9pm to 7am.

M5 northbound traffic will be diverted off the motorway at junction 8 on to the M50 towards junction 1, then the A38, A4440 and A44 to rejoin the motorway at junction 5 while M50 traffic intending to join the M5 northbound will pick up the diversion from junction 1.

A short section of the carriageway will be resurfaced and road markings, studs and traffic detection loops replaced.

The agency said in order to carry out the work safely the carriageway will be closed overnight when traffic flows are lowest.
