FATHER Brown star Mark Williams caused a stir in a pair of Superman boxer shorts when he presented the fancy dress prizes at Blockley's May Day event.

The actor, famous for his role as Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter movies and The Fast Show, wore a crown as he presented prizes to the youngsters who took part in the princesses and superhero-themed fancy dress competition on Sunday.

This year's event was held at the Sports and Social Club as building work is being carried out on the new community shop and cafe, next to the current premises where it normally takes place.

Visitors and residents enjoyed an array of entertainment including the popular dog show, Morris dancing, dancing round the May Pole, Rodeo football, a bouncy castle and 17 stalls.

The Royal Enfield motorcycle and Watsonian side-car, which featured on the first episode of the new series of Britain's Got Talent, also made an appearance.

So far, the overall total raised by local clubs and charities is about £2,700.

Pam Merritt, Blockley Shop Community Association (BCA) member, said: "It was a really successful day. I think everybody had a very enjoyable time. The dog show was popular, it lasted three hours.

"I think there will be quite a strong incentive to it there again. There was so much more room for the children to run around.

"Every group in the village needs to raise money, it was a good place to do it. It was nice to see Mark Williams again. He rose to the challenge of judging the little ones."

The village is set to see a lot more of the actor, as filming is about to start again for the third series of the hit BBC1 show, Father Brown.

However, he will not be living in Blockley during filming this time, but will be close by in Chipping Campden.
